Although CW series Jane the Virgin will be airing its final season this spring, fans don’t have to say goodbye to its characters just yet, at least Jane Villanueva anyway. The CW has recently greenlighted a spinoff pilot titled Jane the Novela that will be based on the stories written by the character herself who will also be narrating the series. Jacqueline Grace Lopez, from Hulu’s East Los High, is set to star as the lead for the spinoff pilot.
Similar to the original, the new series will be a soapy telenovela – but it will come with a twist. Each season is set to be modeled after one of Jane’s fictional novels, meaning that no season will be the same as the last.
For the first season, Lopez will star as art curator Estela who according to Deadline, “has spent years playing it safe and coloring within the lines. But a shocking secret changes everything and forces her to live a double life.”
Jacqueline Grace Lopez shared the news of her upcoming role on social media, writing how she feels “beyond blessed” to have been given the opportunity. “I am the luckiest girl in the world,” she wrote.
Meanwhile, the fifth and final season of Jane the Virgin will premiere on Wednesday, March 27 at 9/8c on the CW.
