Pappajohn and his wife, Mary, were well-known for their namesake, Des Moines’ John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park. She passed away in March 2022.

Pappajohn died on April 22, at the age of 94. His passing is a “huge loss,” according to UI Tippie College of Commerce Dean Amy Kristof-Brown, and his impact will extend well beyond the name on her college’s principal campus home.

Mary Louise Pappajohn, 88, died on March 17, 2022, in Naples, Florida, surrounded by her family. Mary Limberis was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on October 6, 1933, to Michael and Mariana (Bougris) Limberis.

She earned a B.S. in Home Economics from the University of Minnesota in 1955, and following graduation, she worked as a kitchen design consultant for Northern States Power in Minneapolis.

After marrying John George Pappajohn on September 10, 1961, Mary moved to Iowa and became part of the Des Moines community.
